A concentrated, non-aerated extract made from compost. Tell us what you want to use it for and we can discuss a sensible application plan.

01 WORM BIN BASICS

Is your worm bin too wet?

Check below the surface. Bedding should feel damp, with air spaces, not like a soggy mat.

If bedding clumps and liquid collects at the bottom, pause feeding and mix in loose, dry shredded cardboard. Check drainage and ventilation openings. Add moisture only a little at a time when bedding is dry. Several problems can cause an odor, so inspect the food and lower layers before changing everything.

02 HIGH DESERT GARDENS

Compost and mulch do different jobs.

One becomes part of the soil; the other protects its surface from sun and wind.

Finished compost adds organic matter when mixed into the top soil. Mulch sits on top, reducing exposed soil and slowing moisture loss. In sandy High Desert beds, use both for their different roles: work finished compost into the planting area, then cover the surface with mulch while leaving space around plant stems.

03 SOIL LIFE

What are worm castings?

A simple explanation of the dark, fine material left after worms process their feed and bedding.

Castings are a soil amendment, not a complete replacement for your potting mix or a promise of instant results. A little can be blended into a growing mix or applied around established plants. Start modestly, keep the rest of the soil and watering suited to the plant, and observe how it responds.
